Random Thursday:

*  Happy Thursday!  Happy April (almost)!!  What's everyone up to this weekend?  I have nothing going on and I am so ok with it.  We've been busy the last few weekends so I will be perfectly happy hanging out with the dogs, watching movies and reading.

I should do some cleaning and laundry at some point in there too.  Lucas is doing some side jobs so he will be working this weekend but the extra $$ will be good.

*  We're watching the movie "Buried" right now - I wouldn't recommend it if you're claustrophobic!

*  Still obsessed with "Mad Men" - season 4 is in the mail however season 5 has been DELAYED!  Stupid f'n Hollywood.  So it won't air til March 2012.

*  Speaking of "Mad Men", I'm in party planning mode.  :-)

Happy Friday!  Don't be an April fool tomorrow!!

Dinner - romaine with carrots and feta.  I love feta.  And chicken baked with honey mustard dressing.  YUMMO!

On another note!  I saw our ducks today!  Every year we have 2 ducks that nest in our front yard.  I think they're back.  Spring is coming!

Breakfast at The Bad Waitress in Uptown on this sunny Sunday afternoon with our friend Dan and his girlfriend Bri.  It was a 30 minute wait but it was worth it once we got our food.

I love their English muffins!  I don't know why - probably because they taste homemade, they're dense, they're delicious.  YUM.

Lucas had this:

Doesn't it look like dessert?   It was French toast with caramelized bananas, walnuts and chocolate chips.  He said it was awesome.  I didn't even get a taste.

Dan had a cheese omelet and hash browns.  The giant pancake was Bri's.  They didn't even finish it off.  The Bad Waitress has some awesome pancakes.  I highly recommend!

Happy Sunday!

Dinner at the Cafeteria Uptown tonight with Julie and Lynda.  These plastic trays are on the walls.  The decor is very (purposely) retro.   Even the drinks are "retro" (Joan Collins martini, Apollo 13 martini to name a couple).

I had a Cobb salad (minus the bleu cheese).  It was good.... but it was a bit "fancy" (pretty) - I just wanted a Cobb salad for the love of the land.  And the eggs were weird aka runny on purpose (see pic).

Lucas had a catfish po'boy sandwich.  He said it was awesome!

Dessert!!  We all shared the Red Velvet Cake and the French silk.  YUM!

I would definitely go back sometime to try some of the other things on the menu!

Fun Friday: City Love

What do you love about the city you live in?  I grew up in a tiny town - well I take that back, I didn't even live IN town.  I lived in the country.  Population 4 - me, mom, dad and the neighbor who had 82 cats.   I had ONE friend who lived "up the hill" and we would play once a week or so.  Let's just say I spent a lot of time playing with Barbies alone.  I was always jealous of the "town kids" who could A. Walk home and B. Always have playmates at their disposal.  Living in the boondocks also meant driving at least 20-25 minutes to "get to town" where there were restaurants, movie theaters, ONE Mall, etc.   I remember how awesome it was when the town 15 min away got a Subway, LOL.

I've lived in the "big city" for almost 8 years now (holy hell I'm getting old).  I love it.  I can't imagine living in a small town (or in the country) again.  What do I love about Minneapolis?

1.  Convenience:  I can pick from any number of stores within 10 minutes of my house (Cub, Rainbow, Trader Joe's, Super America, Holiday, Target, Walmart, etc).  And there is that annoying mecca known as the MALL OF AMERICA if I *really* feel the urge to shop and get run over by people who can't drive a baby stroller to save their lives.

2.  Theater/Music:  We haven't gone to many plays lately, but we need to get back on it!  We use to have season tickets to the Guthrie and we really enjoyed it.  I love all the theater Minneapolis has to offer from well known (The Guthrie) to small community theaters.  For example, a few upcoming shows in the area include The Lion King, West Side Story, Mamma Mia!, CAKE, Florence + The Machine, just to name a FEW.

3. FOOD!  Minneapolis has some amaaaazing restaurants.  I'm working on slowly trying as many as money and time and waistline allows.  Places we've tried for the first time this year include Nye's Polonaise Room, The Bad Waitress, Common Roots, Azia, Il Gato, and The Local.  On deck is Uptown Cafeteria, Tilia, and Lowbrow.  Minneapolis also has some great organic, local co-ops and farmers markets.

4.  Stuff to do:  Are you bored?  Well, you can go to the aforementioned MOA, the zoo (MN or Como), art museums, lakes, vineyards, Science Museum, History Museum, outdoor baseball, Mill City Museum, a variety of art festivals and outdoor music events in the summer, antiquing in Stillwater, hipster watching in Uptown, or checking out the NE Arts District.

Welcome to the city I love!

TGI(almost)F!  What's up for the weekend everyone??  We're doing dinner Saturday at the Uptown Cafeteria with these two wild women, Lynda and Julie (2 of my 3 favorite nurses):

Then on Sunday we're going back to The Bad Waitress for brunch.  YUM!  Can't wait to go back there.  Never been to the Cafeteria - excited to try it.

Ok, back to Mad Men!!   Almost done with Season 2!

Holy rain batman.   Tomorrow I'll be saying "Holy Snow Batman".  Le Sigh.  We do live in MN right?

So Lucas just saw a post on FB and now has this song stuck in my head.....

Little boxes on the hillside, Little boxes made of ticky tacky
Little boxes on the hillside, little boxes all the same
There’s a green one and a pink one and a blue one and a yellow one
And they’re all made out of ticky tacky and they all look just the same.

Name that tune!

Random Thoughts Monday.......

* Happy Spring (only because it will bring summer)!

*  That being said, Spring is my least favorite season.  Why?  Mud, dirt, sand and wiping dog feet 29 times a day.  At least in the winter its frozen and pretty lol.

* After Saturday night, I could never be bulimic. Ever.  Ugh.

* After 15+ hours of sleep, I woke up today at like 12:30 feeling pretty good.  I still can't eat a ton because I'm pretty sure my stomach is the size of a golf ball.

* Doing more research for my Mad Men cocktail party.  Thinking of doing it early/mid June (if we still have a house).   If the house suddenly sells I may have to move that date up.  :-)   Now, the question is, do I go for the hot housewife or the sexy secretary look?

Short and sweet today.  WTF I say. WTF.   Want to know why?  My 12 year streak of NOT throwing up ended last night on my birthday.  Well happy fricken birthday to me.   Oy.  Currently I am up because I feel like I was hit by a truck and cannot get comfy in bed.   Not sure if its flu or food poisoning but I wouldn't wish this on anyone - and before you ask if I am pregnant - HIGHLY UNLIKELY!  I'm crawling back to my cave now.......

It's my birfday!

After I got ready this morning I walked in to see this:

My sneaky husband got me 2 necklaces and a homemade card.   Sneaky bugger.  Love him!  Thank you all for the birthday texts and Facebook messages.  I very much appreciate it!

Let the birthday celebrations begin.

Here's my cube when I got to work.  Rob/Ed is the "traveling birthday boy" at work.  He visits everyone's cube for their birthdays.   He did eventually have to go away because he kept falling on me - frisky boy.

My fantastical coworkers brought in angel food, strawberries and cool whip.  YUMMO!

My "mini cake" eraser from Jules in representation of my CAKE concert ticket.  HOLLA!

And now we're in Rochester visiting the fam.  Here's Damian reading tractor magazines with Lucas.

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

I don't have an ounce of Irish blood in me (that I know of?) but I wore my green sweater to work today and pretended I was Irish for a day.  :-)

What did you guys do to celebrate?  Did you eat an Irish meal?  Did you wear green?  Are you still drunk in St. Paul?  :P

Have a drink for me!

Recently a few of my family members have been making awesome efforts at getting healthy, eating better and exercising!  I'm so proud of you guys (you know who you are)!  You guys are rock stars.  :-)

Mwah!

Speaking of getting healthy, my friend Amanda has this picture on her Spark page, love it.  And its so true - I know LOTS of skinny people who are NOT healthy.  Be strong, don't worry about being skinny.
