Yummy Lunch idea

I found inspiration for this wrap over at www.iowagirleats.com a few days ago.  Its super easy, pretty healthy, filling with a side of fruit and delish.

I started with a whole wheat tortilla, spread Laughing Cow Garlic and Herb cheese on it (I put red pepper hummus on Lucas' wrap and he said it was good) and sprinkled it with flax seeds (extra healthy essential oils).

Top with low sodium roasted turkey (or whatever you choose).

Add sliced pickles - its a nice crunch.

And lastly avocado - you could also add spinach for even more healthy goodness.

Wrap and serve!

Five Question Friday

TGI-freaking-F.  This has been quite a week.

1. If you could have been (could be) any profession you wanted (brains and $$$ no problem) what would it be?  I would either be a stylist or run Lucas' furniture business or have a vintage clothing store.

2. How often do you clean out your car?  Eh, like once a season.  Always in the Spring to get the sand from winter out.

3. Do you wish there was such a thing as fashion police or are you deeply relieved?  Ha, I'm fine with people expressing their own sense of style even if they do look ridiculous.

4. What's your go to food/drink/activity when stressed?   Sleeping.  Then I don't have to think about it.

5. If you had twins, what would you name them?  Holy and Shit, lol.  Just kidding - I don't know - what flavor are they?  Boys? Girls? one of each?  Here is a pile of names I like - you can pair them together:  Henry, Jack, Charlie, James, Ruby, Scarlett, Cora, Vivian, and Lyla.

Big news - I'm working on another blog - this one is all Halloween, all the time.  And I'm working on it with a partner.  There will be costume/make up tutorials, giveaways, recipes.  Stay tuned!!  I'm so excited to share it with you all.  We plan to go live the end of September.

Trader Joe's!

You all know my love for Trader Joe's - I thought I'd share with you some of our favorite things.

First - the fruit.  They have amazing fruit - it tastes awesome and the prices are great.  They carry organic fruit at fair prices too.  And they sell fruit by the piece not the pound.

Dr. Praeger's veggie burgers - these are great.  Some veggie burgers I can't get down and these I love.

The Mandarin Chicken - not healthy whatsoever, but its gooooooood.  All you have to do is reheat it in a pan with some olive oil and stir in the orange sauce.  I serve it over jasmine rice.

We love these things too!  They aren't super healthy either, but they're good for a quick bite to eat.  We usually eat the Mandarin Chicken and Chicken Tacos as treat meals.  :-)

Fat Free Feta - I use this for salads and pasta.  Delicious.

Coconut Milk - we don't even drink regular milk here anymore.  I use coconut milk in my cooking and smoothies and cereal.

Lucas loves this Grapefruit soda - his favorite thing is mixing it with rum.

Trader Joe's has awesome fresh salsa - we dip our mini chicken tacos in this.

I've blogged about my love for coconut oil before - whether its for cooking or a beauty regime, its awesome!

Flax Seeds - these things are great for essential oils.  I put them in the breakfast muffins I make, in salads, on tacos, etc.

Those are a few of my favorite Trader Joe's things.  I'll do another post when the fall things come in.  They have some yummy seasonal products too!

One more thing - my friend Amanda posted this tip on Facebook:

TIP of the Month: don't waste your time husking sweetcorn and boiling water to cook- simply take the piece of corn (still in husk) and place in microwave for 4 minutes/husk (8 mins for 2, etc) take out when done with oven MIT and let stand 2 minutes. Cut off the bottom and shake/squeeze corn out! Perfectly cooked and ready to eat!

It worked!  Never boiling corn again.  Vinci approves!

Weekend Wrap Up

Happy Sunday Funday!  What a busy, fun weekend!

Friday night Lucas and I went to a wedding reception for his cousins.  They were married over the winter in Costa Rica.  This is what I wore:

Saturday started off a little rough.  I was on the elliptical and Lucas was mowing and the dogs were going in between the house and outside.  I went upstairs to get some water and there was blood on the kitchen floor - I turned to the dogs and said "Who's bleeding?"   Vinci was the winner.  He had caught his toenail somehow and it was hanging by a thread.  I called the vet and they said to bring him down - luckily they're open until 1 and I called them at 1130.   Love them!  If you ever need a vet Uptown Vet is amazing.  Love their staff and Dr. Julie.  So $100, 2 meds, and one less toenail later Vinci was good to go.  Here he is with his little club bandaged foot:

Saturday night was Lucas' first art show (since college)!  It was a great show.  Super busy, lots of hipsters, lots of networking to be done.  Sadly Lucas didn't sell anything (actually not many of the artists did sell anything) but I think everyone got tons of great exposure and all the work was so nice and creative.

Here I am sitting on his bench (photo from Julie):

A montage of photos - upper left: outside looking in; upper right: Lucas talking to Grandma about his bench; bottom: Lucas' credenza in the back.

Lucas' friend and coworker Garret made some really cool chairs - here we are sitting in them (photos by Julie):

I can't even imagine how long it took Garret to get all that string on them!  He made 2 variations of these chairs and a stool all using string.   I thought they looked so cool.

Here are some close up pics of Lucas' pieces:

The credenza - made with ash with a water based grayish stain; steel plates on the front panels and recycled pulls - I love the pulls.

The bench - made with oak stained black; the top is fiberglass and the little compartment on top could be used for your keys, remotes, etc.  People really loved this piece at the show and kept touching the top.  Its smooth like buttah!

And lastly, since the space where the show was use to be a bar, each artist made a bar stool to go around the bar.   This is Lucas' bar stool - 2 tone stained ash with a swivel top covered in leather.

Everything is still for sale!  Tell your friends.  :-)  Thank you to everyone who came downtown to support Lucas!  We appreciate you all.

A name is a name is a name....

Right?  Actually I'm considering changing the name of the blog.  Mostly because its not about 365 days of blogging anymore (and it hasn't been for almost a year now haha).

Any ideas guys?
